Undergraduate Study in Psychology at Penn State

Psychology is the science of human behavior and experience, covering topics ranging from psychological disorders to the neuroscience of basic perceptual functions.   Many scientific and practical disciplines draw from and contribute to the core science of psychology.  Psychological science is applied in a wide variety of domains, including the treatment of psychological disorders, facilitating human performance in organizations, improving educational practice, and many more.   Psychologists work in a variety of settings, including private practice, hospitals and treatment centers, government, industry, and of course colleges and universities.  Majoring in psychology may also prepare students for careers in medicine, law, social work, government, and business.

Penn State offers many options for the undergraduate study of psychology, ranging from the small-college atmosphere of several campuses to the large University Park major. A number of campuses offer four-year degrees, with somewhat different emphases and requirements tailored to faculty expertise and student needs. Coursework in all Penn State psychology degrees is drawn from a common curriculum. Although not all Psychology courses are offered at every campus, the first two years of any Psychology major can be completed at any campus.  Psychology students will find many opportunities to enhance their educational experience, including internships, research opportunities, study abroad, and minors in many fields.
